Ken Michaels
... has had a career in radio since 1982, and is best known for his work on the Beatles. In March of 1982 he started a unique radio program at New York's WNYT-FM (Old Westbury, LI). The show combined the Fab Four’s group and solo-music, cover versions, tribute songs and side projects, and mixed them all with a wide variety of over 20 different games and forms of trivia in three hours of Beatle Heaven.
Move things up a year ... and in 1983, he took the program, then called “The All-Request Beatles Show”, to northern New Jersey’s rock station WDHA-FM, where the show enjoyed a successful run for 10 straight years. Ken's 3 hour show followed the same format as it did at WNYT. This time, though, he also incorporated the latest hot news, fascinating interviews, and unique thematic Beatles sets that ranged from serious to silly. Ken incorporated every aspect of the Beatles catalog into his sets, and included them all into trivia questions and games for weekly prizes. “The All-Request Beatles Show” provided an entertaining, fun and informative show that would hold not only the attention of the casual Beatles listener, but also the Beatles aficionado.
From 1995 - 96, the show found a new home at Long Island’s oldies station WBZO (B-103) during the height of the Beatles’ Anthology craze.
In 2003 ( to 2009) Ken switched gears, and his carefully crafted show got a little make over and found a new home on two XM Radio channels. There one could listen to a one-hour version of his Beatles show under the new title “Every Little Thing”, aired on XM Radio's all-eclectic Fine Tuning channel. It's focus was strictly Beatles music ... but not without it's interesting thematic sets and captivating interviews. You could also catch Ken on XM’s 60’s Channel throughout the week with short features such as “Beatles News” and “Beatles Breaks.”
When not "on the air", Ken contributed articles and interviews for the Beatles fanzines: Good Day Sunshine and Daytrippin'. One of Ken’s proudest moments was when the results of his Top 50 listener countdown of favorite Paul McCartney songs appeared in Paul’s own fan newsletter, Club Sandwich.
Ken has also worked behind the scenes as a producer for the ABC Radio Networks/Radio Today. Among the many shows he worked on were “Flashback,” “Screen Test,” and “Today In Rock History.” One of his strongest interests is radio programming, and he is very proud of his role as programmer and producer for the Adult Contemporary show “Special of the Week” in the mid 90’s. He also produced the only syndicated radio special for the “John Lennon Anthology,” to coincide with the box set released in 1998. Ken has also interviewed many legendary acts while at ABC, including Glen Campbell, Tommy James, Chicago, Tony Orlando & Dawn, Three Dog Night, Donny Osmond, the Zombies, and Peter & Gordon.
